What a periodontist is for.
Periodontics is the specialty of the tissue and bone that support teeth. An implant succeeds or fails on exactly that: whether the bone integrates with it and whether the gum around it stays healthy. Placing implants is part of periodontal residency training for that reason.
It also means the same person assessing the site is the one who treats the gum disease that may have caused the tooth to be lost in the first place. Placing an implant into an untreated mouth is how implants are lost.

About Dr. Natanzi.
Dr. Nima Natanzi is a Los Angeles native, born and raised in Southern California. He attended UCLA before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco. He then moved to Boston to complete three years of advanced specialty training in Periodontics at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident.
As a periodontist, Dr. Natanzi focuses on the foundation of a healthy smile, the gums and bone that support the teeth. His goal is to help patients maintain their natural teeth whenever possible, restore periodontal health, and create a healthy, stable foundation for long term dental health.
Dr. Natanzi believes that excellent periodontal care begins with understanding each patient’s individual needs. He strives to make patients feel comfortable and informed throughout their treatment while providing thoughtful, evidence based care. Whether treating gum disease, rebuilding lost bone and gum tissue, or replacing missing teeth with dental implants, his focus is on achieving healthy, predictable, and lasting results. He is proud to have returned to Southern California after completing his specialty training. He values the opportunity to care for patients in the community that shaped him and is committed to helping each patient achieve lasting oral health and feel confident in their care.
